Dr Ronny Cheung is a consultant general paediatrician at Evelina London Children’s Hospital since 2014, and has been the Deputy Chief Medical Officer responsible for clinical improvement at Guy’s & St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT, the Evelina’s parent Trust) since 2023.

His twin passions are healthcare improvement and child health policy.
Within child health, he works as the national advisor for paediatric medicine for NHS England’s Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) Further Faster programme which is focused on accelerating elective recovery for child health services. Outside of paediatrics, he chairs NICE’s Indicators Advisory Committee which develops and curates healthcare metrics for NHS providers (primary and secondary care) and population-based health services, and he is also a Senior Associate at the Nuffield Trust health thinktank.

He has previously been a clinical advisor to Public Health England and to the English Chief Medical Officer at the UK Department of Health, and was also seconded as a health advisor to the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit in the Cabinet Office.

Becoming a Trustee is the latest of many volunteer roles he has undertaken at the RCPCH over many years. Currently the Officer for Health Services, hhe has previously been a member of the Trainee Committee and the Health Informatics Committee, and a member advisor to the Child Health 2030 and the Facing the Future standards working groups. He was also part of the editorial and author team of the college’s first State of Child Health report in 2017, before becoming clinical lead and chief editor of the second report published in 2020.
