Background
In recent years there have been growing concerns around violence that children and young people are being exposed to which can go on to have a long-term impact on their health and wellbeing.
This course is an opportunity to hear from a variety of experts on the different forms of violence that children and young people are currently facing as well as an opportunity to be in conversation with peers about best practice when its impact is seen in clinical practice.
The course will also focus on violence between children and young people.
The personal experience shared, and professional expertise was priceless.
Course aim
To equip paediatricians with an understanding of how violence (in various forms) impacts on children and young people, leading to safeguarding issues that may be observed in a clinical setting, and the skills to address them.
I think after today I feel more confident in being able to handle this in a more sensitive manner, and also encouraging the rest of my department to do the same
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Describe national themes of different forms of violence (such as domestic violence, gender-based violence, incel culture and gang/knife violence including where children and young people are perpetrators) and understanding the safeguarding implications
- Recognise how the impact of violence may present for children and young people in different clinical settings.
- Outline how to support children and young people affected by violence including signposting to relevant organisations
Excellent day - knowledgeable and informative speakers with interesting content and resultant discussions generated.
Audience
- Paediatric trainees (all levels)
- SAS and locally employed doctors
- Consultant paediatricians
Because of the focus on UK policy and practice, this course is best suited to paediatricians working in the UK.
Please also ensure you are up-to-date with standard safeguarding policies and procedures as these will not be covered in the course.
I work at Community Paediatrics. This is very helpful in my clinic practice to help approach CYP in difficulties.
